In 2024, we’re set to welcome serenity into our homes, create joyful spaces that foster connected living, and incorporate design priorities that blur the lines between utility and luxury, giving rise to streamlined and effortlessly maintained spaces. Below, we’ve shared a roundup of key kitchen trend predictions poised to shape the look and feel of our homes in the year ahead.
Green continues to be a favoured colour trend in 2024. Integrating this hue into your kitchen offers an opportunity to re-establish a connection with nature. It has a remarkable, uplifting effect on the home, embodying balance, wellbeing and serenity.
With so many versatile shades, from saturated sage to deep forest hues, green can seamlessly complement a wide array of kitchen styles and colour schemes. With this in mind, we’ve recently added a new hue to our colour palette, Green Meadow. This delightful smoky green-blue paint colour exudes a calming heritage feel and works harmoniously with other exclusive colours in our palette.
Clear your kitchen of fuss and clutter with a thoughtfully designed minimalist layout that works for you and your family. Think floor-to-ceiling cabinetry, optimisation of ancillary rooms, easy-to-maintain surfaces, and considered zoning.
Creative Design Director Tom Howley explains, “Whilst during Covid we saw an increasing interest in broken-plan layouts, featuring more privacy, open plan is still very much a 2024 kitchen trend. Open plan layouts provide larger spaces for families to go about their daily tasks and be more sociable, so the kitchen living space truly becomes the heart of the home. Furthermore, by removing walls that would have acted like a barrier, the natural light from your windows and roof lights can spread to more of your home, creating a brighter and airier space.”
Vintage and aged metals, such as burnished brass and gold, are taking the spotlight when it comes to door handles, hinges and taps, infusing charm and character into both traditional and contemporary cabinetry. In terms of finish, matt, brushed, or satin surfaces are remarkably versatile, with some finishes, especially taps, becoming beautifully patinated as the years go on.
We’re seeing a noticeable shift in kitchen designs incorporating communal seating areas, catering to various activities from eating and hosting guests to relaxing and winding down after a long day. Cosy kitchen nooks, complete with comfortable bench seating, can create an inviting setting for catching up with loved ones.
Banquette seating and defined dining zones are being introduced, ready to accommodate the whole family, whatever the occasion. Kitchen islands also take on new roles with wraparound seating to encourage engaging conversations, which is particularly valuable when entertaining guests.
Integrated appliances with multifunctional capabilities are gaining momentum. These advanced appliances, including vented hobs, Quooker taps, air fryers, and steam cookers, are revolutionising how we cook at home. Not only do they offer convenience, reducing cooking time, but they also offer precision control, allowing you to perfect your favourite dish. Often with sleek design, these modern appliances can free up valuable storage space, contributing to a functional and clutter-free aesthetic.
Biophilic design is a 2024 kitchen trend that goes beyond mere aesthetics; it’s a holistic approach emphasising the natural world, sustainability and wellness. As well as earthy tones and green hues, natural woods, such as oak, are making a comeback, adding harmony and tactility to modern and traditional kitchen designs. At the heart of biophilic design lies the optimisation of natural light. Homes are opening up to the outdoors with floor-to-ceiling windows, bifold doors and skylights, creating a seamless connection between indoors and out.
With kitchens becoming multi-purpose hubs, the demand for efficient organisation has never been more significant. Hidden elements like breakfast pantries are gaining popularity, providing a designated space for your morning routine and keeping clutter concealed. Bespoke bars and beverage stations are emerging as delightful additions to the modern kitchen, providing not only practicality but also a social focal point for gatherings with friends and family. Similarly, walk-in pantries, bootilities and back kitchens serve as invaluable assets, cleverly concealing the clutter of the kitchen.
In the coming year, kitchen lighting trends will emphasise layering and versatility. Ambient LEDs, censored lighting, low-level pendants, and recessed lighting can create a balanced and adaptable scheme, not only enhancing the overall functionality of a space but also ensuring that your kitchen remains well-lit and welcoming, irrespective of the time of day.
Sensor-controlled illumination is a fantastic way to elevate cabinets, especially pantries. As you open the doors to your pantry, the interior will be gently bathed in light, allowing you to effortlessly locate your breakfast essentials and create a more efficient and enjoyable morning routine.
Neutrals, blonde and warm-toned woods, and earthy hues like soft pinks and browns are defining features of 2024, bringing comfort and a timeless appeal into the home. Creative Design Director Tom Howley explains, “Throughout the past year, our design team has noticed clients leaning towards a combination of natural woods, off-white cabinetry, and tactile stone surfaces in the kitchen. We expect to see this Scandi-inspired kitchen trend continue to evolve with the addition of reeded glass, patina finishes and natural stone flooring.”
